On Tuesday Turkish dailies covered the Republican People's Party's (CHP) 34th congress in Ankara and new developments in the investigation and retrieval of the wreckage of a Turkish military jet.

Several Turkish dailies reported on the main opposition CHP's two-day 34th congress, which will begin today in Ankara. CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu is expected to stress left-of-center policies, democracy and freedom. The congress' slogan is “Democracy and Changes,” according to the Zaman daily. Several dailies stated that the CHP is seeking to turn back to its social-democratic roots.

The Milliyet daily ran a headline that read “Phoenix will bring in wreckage” regarding the remaining parts of the wreckage of a Turkish jet shot down 13 miles off the coast of Syria last June. Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bülent Arınç said the government has reached an agreement with US marine services contracting company Phoenix International on retrieving the rest of the wreckage. Milliyet quoted Arınç as saying, “The operation will start in a couple of days.”
