Woman kills daughter, attempts suicide

The 32-year-old woman, Nur Şahin, was staying in a hotel in the Fatih district of İstanbul. Reportedly, she has recently divorced from her husband, who was seeking custody of their daughter.

Şahin, who allegedly had psychological problems, poisoned her daughter with pills and then throttled the girl to death. She later wrote a note for her ex-husband, which read: “Did you think I would give my daughter to you? You have ruined my life and our daughter's life.” Then the woman jumped out of the window of her hotel room.

Şahin was immediately taken to the Haseki Research and Teaching Hospital by hotel staff. She was reported to have a life-threatening condition. Police are questioning the woman's husband in connection with the incident.
