Hope on Mount Kaf

5 July 2012 /FEHMİ KORU STAR
Terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan’s brother recently joined a group of people claiming that “Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan can solve the Kurdish issue,” led by independent pro-Kurdish deputy Leyla Zana.

I am one of those people in the group. Erdoğan is a figure who can successfully deal with the issue with his solution-driven approach, ability to establish empathy with aggrieved people and his courage. Former President Turgut Özal was like that, too. The last sentence I heard from him was: “I will take up a responsibility that might even include risks if necessary to solve this issue.” But I on the other hand find it unfair to expect everything from one man when there are two, or more than two, sides to the solution of this issue. Until İmralı [the island where Öcalan is jailed] comes up with an interlocutor that will have the same courage as Erdoğan, hope rests on Mount Kaf [a legendary mountain found in Turkish fairy tales].
