RTÜK bans TV ads for herbal medicine

The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) announced on its website on Wednesday that it has banned advertisements for herbal medicine products from being broadcast and will fine the channels that broadcast these banned ads, citing the ads are “deceptive.”
Among the banned products are creams, masks, lotions, shampoos, food supplements and gels that claim to help people lose weight, quit smoking, increase sexual performance and cure diseases.
The announcement also said that the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Animal Husbandry had previously banned advertisements of the aforementioned herbal products and had fined the TV channels that broadcast these advertisements, but the channels continued to run them. Moving forward, RTÜK will strictly examine ads and fine the channels accordingly, the announcement said.
