Father tortures daughter to death in Gaziantep

28 June 2012, Thursday / İLKAY GÖÇMEN
A 13-year-old girl has been tortured to death by her father in the southeastern province of Gaziantep.

The father, Şeref Erzurumlu, who was recently released from jail, beat his daughter, Zekiye, who was being cared for by her relatives as her mother had left her when her father was in prison.

Erzurumlu beat Zekiye so hard that the girl lost consciousness and then passed away. The reason for the attack is unknown. When the father realized that his daughter had died, he asked for help from four of his friends. Erzurumlu's friends took the girl to a private hospital, saying they had found the girl in an open area. An examination by doctors of the girl's body revealed that she died from injuries consistent with an assault. As a result, the police were informed of the incident.

Six people, including Erzurumlu's four friends, have been detained as part of the investigation into murder while the police continue to search for the missing father.

Zekiye's body was sent to Council of Forensic Medicine for an autopsy.
