An Ankara Fenerbahçe fan association held a march on Sunday to express support for jailed club chairman Aziz Yıldırım.
The march attracted a large number of Fenerbahçe fans across Turkey. The demonstrations started with a minute of silence for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and the martyrs of Turkey as well as the singing of the national anthem. The association’s head addressed the crowd, saying that Fenerbahçe fans would continue exhibiting an “honorable stance” in the face of what they called the “unfair” treatment of the İstanbul club. Fenerbahçe is currently in the midst of a massive match-fixing scandal. Yıldırım has been detained in prison since last summer, when an investigation was begun into the rigging allegations.
