Turkish referee Çakır to officiate Spain-Portugal semifinal

Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) announced on Monday that Turkish referee Cüneyt Çakır was appointed to officiate the Euro 2012 semifinal game between Spain and Portugal on Wednesday.

The team of referees for the game will comprise Turkish assistant referees Bahattin Duran and Tarik Ongun, as well as two other Turks -- Hüseyin Göcek and Bülent Yıldırım. The fourth official will be Damir Skomina from Slovenia.The other semifinal encounter between Germany and Italy will be refereed by Stephane Lannoy from France on Thursday. Lannoy will be assisted by Frederic Cano and Michael Annonier, and Fredy Fautrel and Ruddy Buquet as additional assistant referees. Howard Webb from England will be the fourth official on the pitch.The Euro 2012 semifinals will take place in the cities of Donetsk, Ukraine and Warsaw, Poland. The tournament will conclude on July 1. Turkey's Çakır has also officiated two games -- Ukraine vs. Sweden and Italy vs. Ireland -- as head referee in the Euro 2012 tournament.
