7 killed, 81 injured in traffic accidents across Turkey
Seven people were killed and 81 were injured in traffic accidents across the country on Wednesday.
One person was killed and 45 were hurt when a truck hit a passenger bus that had stopped on a highway bridge because of a mechanical failure in the western province of Kocaeli on Wednesday.
With impact of the crash, the bus plunged off the bridge in Körfez, a district of Kocaeli. A 6-year-old boy was killed at the scene while 45 people were injured Several ambulances rushed to the scene to take the injured to hospital. Some passengers blamed the bus company, saying that they had been waiting for four hours on the highway for the mechanical failure to be repaired when the truck hit the bus, media outlets reported. Police have launched an investigation into the accident.
Four people were seriously injured when a truck that had a tire blowout hit a car in Derince, in the western province of Kocaeli on the same day. The injured were taken to the Derince Teaching and Research Hospital and are still in critical condition. One person was killed when a pickup track driven by Kemalettin Yıldırım (40) crashed into a truck in Kartepe, another district of Kocaeli. Yıldırım died at the scene.
In another fatal accident in the southern province of Adana, two people were killed and 30 others sustained injuries in a multiple-vehicle collision. A truck whose brakes failed caused a seven-car pile-up in Adana’s Pozantı district. A number of ambulances were called to attend. Two people died at the scene of the accident. The road was closed to traffic for nearly six hours.
Three people were killed and one was seriously injured as a car hit a parked truck in the central province of Sivas also on Wednesday. Three people in the car died at the scene while one person was taken to the hospital.
