Four more PKK terrorists killed, one surrendered

The total number of PKK member killed after Tuesday's attack has reached 24, as 20 PKK members were killed on Tuesday and four on Wednesday. In addition, a number of PKK militants have surrendered to security units.

Up to 100 PKK terrorists launched simultaneous attacks at dawn on three military observation points in Hakkari province near the mountainous border with Iraq, killing eight soldiers and wounding 16 on Tuesday.

The PKK, which is fighting for autonomy in Turkey's mainly Kurdish Southeast, was founded on Marxist ideology. Turkey has been conducting airstrikes on PKK camps in Iraq's northern mountains and inside Turkey since August of last year, following an increase in attacks on Turkish troops and civilians by the PKK.

The conflict has claimed tens of thousands of lives. The group is labeled a terrorist organization by the European Union and the United States, which has supplied Predator drones to assist Turkey.
