Seven detained in al-Qaeda operation in Gaziantep province

18 June 2012 /TODAY'S ZAMAN
Seven people were detained for suspected links with terrorist organization al-Qaeda on Monday in the eastern province of Gaziantep.

The detainees are suspected of providing members and money for the organization's activities in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Gaziantep Police Department anti-terrorism units detained the suspects during a series of operations conducted simultaneously in the Konak, Güzelvadi and Karşıyaka districts of the province. Police also seized computers, hard disks, documents and leaflets related to the organization's activities.

Seven more people were arrested in İzmir province for involvement with al-Qaeda late in March. The detainees, most of whom worked in the food industry, were members of an al-Qaeda cell based in İzmir and had been wiring funds to al-Qaeda camps in Pakistan's Waziristan region.
