Roj TV, a mouthpiece for the terrorist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), broadcasts from Denmark in dialects of the Kurdish language. “With necessary legal changes, we will prevent terrorist organizations getting broadcasting opportunities,” said Danish Prime Minister Helle Thörning Schmidt in an interview with Danish news outlet Jyllands-Posten, admitting that giving broadcasting rights to Roj TV was a mistake.
“We should not have let Roj TV broadcast, as the PKK is a terrorist organization,” said Schmidt following her official visit to Turkey. Schmidt held a meeting with Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Ankara early on Thursday afternoon.
According to Schmidt, the issue of Roj TV was on the agenda during the meeting with Erdoğan. “Turks are pleased with the decision over Roj TV accepted by the Copenhagen City Court. However, they say they do not understand why the Danish government let Roj TV broadcast, and we share their opinion. If the PKK is announced to be a terrorist organization, then getting permission to broadcast from Denmark is not right. The Danish government has worked to make changes in the constitution,” he said.
