Leyla Zana, an independent pro-Kurdish deputy from Diyarbakır, had said she believes Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will solve the Kurdish issue and that she has never lost hope in him, the Hürriyet daily reported on Thursday.

Zana reportedly said she does not think the Kurdish issue will be solved by appointing the military, police or judiciary with certain tasks, stating: “There is a solid fact here. Let's say this openly and accept this fact. If he wanted, the strongest can solve this [Kurdish] issue. Who is that strongest one? It's the government and its head Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The person who is the head of the strongest government in history is able to show the willpower and have the power to sort out this issue. I believe that he will be able to solve this issue. I have never lost my faith in him solving this issue. And I don't want to lose my faith in him. If I had lost [my faith], I wouldn't be here.”

Zana added that everyone should make clear that they support the prime minister in solving the Kurdish issue.

She further said she would like to meet with Erdoğan and that the issue is not her talking with the prime minister, but rather Erdoğan inviting Kurdish intellectuals to meet with him to discuss the Kurdish issue.

She added that previous meetings between Kurdish opinion leaders and the government have taken place, but there was no progress made. According to Zana, the government should avoid political terminology like the “Kurdish initiative” and should instead do something to stop the bloodshed in the country.

Last month a Diyarbakır court sentenced Zana to 10 years in prison on charges of being a member of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and spreading its propaganda in speeches she made over four years ago.

It is absolutely illogical to ask the PKK to put down their arms when you yourself will not be doing the same. If the Turkish government really wants to move towards a peaceful solution then let them be the first ones to act and show good signs of progress. To this day they have not done this and ha...

Could any one suffer and sacrifice more for Kurds than Leyla Zana? She has earned respect even from her ardent critics. She knows more than others that violence can not bring Kurdish solution. She is absolutely right. But Erdogan must take very bold steps for the solution.

When Leyla Zana speaks, all citizens of Turkey should listen very carefully. Mr Erdogan stands at an historical crossroad. He can choose to be just and realistic or he can opt for the ways of the Turkish despot Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. Either way, the Kurds will secure freedom, equality and equal oppo...

All Kurds do not support the PKK. Some Kurds support the PKK whole heartedly, because they believe in violence. Some Kurds support the PKK under the threat from the PKK. A large number of Kurds believe in the democratic methods to achieve the welfare of the Kurds. So, it is wrong to put all the Kurd...

There is a reason PKK has invested almost all its power to the political arena. Leyla Zana was appointed by the PKK. So was the rest of the BDP. But Erdogan put them all in prison. Then what will be the answer to that? Weapons! Leyla Zanas comments is a last call for a peaceful way to solve this pro...
