Eskişehirspor Chairman Halil Ünal was elected on Tuesday as the new president of the Union of Clubs, which comprises 18 clubs in the top division, the Spor Toto Super League.
In the general congress meeting held at an Ankara hotel, 15 clubs were represented by their chairmen while Beşiktaş, Fenerbahçe and Bursaspor sent other managers. Ünal garnered 11 votes out of 18 while the other contender, Kayserispor Chairman Recep Mamur, received seven. Galatasaray Chairman Ünal Aysal was appointed as the president of the council of the organization. Ünal thanked all the clubs after the results were announced. The new president said the Union of Clubs plans to undertake many projects to make the organization professional and more efficient. He also said each team from the Super League will send a representative to support jailed Gaziantepspor Chairman İbrahim Kızıl, who is facing trial, scheduled for June 15. Kızıl was arrested on fraud charges in April.
