Erdoğan said that behind this development, at a time when the rest of the world struggles with critical financial crises, lie political stability, democratization and a focus on peace in foreign relations. Erdoğan is indeed right in his observation, but what has he been doing recently to achieve all this? It is undeniable that Turkey has done quite well in the last 10 years in economic terms, but the continuation of this progress depends on politics now. If Erdoğan is indeed aware of the importance of political stability, democratization and peace, then he must know that these cannot be achieved without solving the Kurdish issue, changing his attitude regarding the Uludere incident and his tone on some controversial issues such as abortion. Erdoğan should certainly grasp the true meaning and requirements of what he has said.
