The first Turkish branch of Austrian hypermarket bauMax opened in the İstanbul district of Avcılar this weekend amid fanfare and crowds, the first of what the company says could be as many as 50 Turkish stores by 2018.
Selling appliances and home improvement goods, the company states it currently employs roughly 900 employees in Turkey and has spent approximately 150 million euros on initiating operations in the country. Representatives of bauMax say 75 percent of products sold in the Avcılar store are Turkish-made.
