Following a request from the Bodrum Prosecutor’s Office, police conducted simultaneous raids at 15 locations on Monday and detained 16 people, including Bodrum Municipality officials and several other civil servants, on allegations of abuse of authority and accepting bribes.
Speaking to the press on Monday, Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon stated that several police officers raided the municipality building and detained the officials. Kocadon said: “They have detained many respectable Bodrum people who worked very hard for years in creating today’s Bodrum. This is truly a sad incident. I believe with all my heart that our friends will be released after testifying to the prosecutors. I trust our friends. I do not believe that they have misused their authority.”
The Muğla Police Department’s Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Unit conducted an operation in June of last year and took seven people into custody on the same allegations.
