15k mobilize for autistic child’s education
An online campaign for an autistic six-year-old’s right to education reached its 15,000-signature goal on Friday.
Circulated by widely acclaimed international website www.change.org, which aims to promote social change through online petitions, the parents of 6-year-old Ozan Barış Sanlısoy hit their target on Friday afternoon.
The parents of Sanlısoy, who was excluded from his school because of his autism, have also filed a complaint against the school for denying his right to education and for impeding a process that is mandated by law. Sanlısoy’s mother, Sedef Erken Sanlısoy said on CNNTurk in December 2011 she had encountered no difficulty enrolling her son in the school and that he had thus far studied alongside other children, until she informed the school he had atypical autism.
