Ankara State Theater travels to The Hague with ‘Chronicles of Narnia’

25 May 2012 /TODAY’S ZAMAN WITH WIRES
The Ankara State Theater (ADT) is set for a rare performance in The Hague this weekend, presenting their new musical production called “Narnia Günlükleri” -- based on C.S. Lewis’ series of fantasy novels “The Chronicles of Narnia” -- to Dutch theatergoers, Turkish news agencies reported this week.

The performance comes as part of a packed program of cultural activities marking the 400th anniversary of the commencement of diplomatic ties between Turkey and the Netherlands, the Anatolia news agency reported Tuesday.

The ADT production, based on British musician Irita Kutchmy’s musical adaptation of the series’ second book, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” will be staged in a special, one-off performance on Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Lucent Danstheater in The Hague.

The play, which explores such concepts as friendship, courage and independence, is directed by Işıl Kasapoğlu. The ADT production features set and costume design by Hakan Dündar and lighting by Ersen Tunççekiç. The lyrics were adapted to Turkish by Zerrin Çağlar for the ADT production, which features choreography by Maral Cerenoğlu.
