Report: Turkey to be Europe’s most valuable partner in foreign policy

15 May 2012, Tuesday /TODAY’S ZAMAN
Turkey is likely to become the most important foreign policy partner of the European Union in the coming years, according to a report released by the Foundation for Political, Economic and Social Research (SETA).

The report, titled “Europe’s perception of Turkish foreign policy,” also points out that Turkey’s Middle East politics is not regarded as an obstacle in its relations with the EU. The SETA report is based on interviews with leading European politicians, analysts, academics and journalists with an interest in Turkey. In general, their perception of Turkey’s foreign policy is positive, according to the report.

The document states that Turkey will be in a stronger position to achieve its foreign policy goals, given the country’s stability. The analysts claim that the effectiveness of Europe’s foreign policy will be achieved by constructive and peaceful relations with Turkey.

European intellectuals do not regard Turkey’s relations with Middle East countries as a hindrance. Rather, they consider Turkey’s foreign policy will contribute to the political position Europe occupies on the world stage.
