Turkey calls for solution to Palestinian prisoners issue

11 May 2012 /TODAY’S ZAMAN
Turkey is calling on the international community to step in and help Palestinian prisoners in Israel who have been on a hunger strike for 70 days.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Friday saying, “We are deeply concerned about the health, which has reached a critical stage, of the seven Palestinians who are being held under administrative custody without having any idea of why they are imprisoned, and who have completed the 70th day of their hunger strike.” The written statement drew attention to the fact that this issue, which has a humanitarian aspect, is also of great importance in regards to maintaining peace and stability in the region. The ministry called on the international community to handle the prisoners’ situation with sensitivity and take the necessary steps towards a solution. “We expect Israel to act in accordance with its responsibilities that are entrenched in international law, and to free as soon as possible the innocent Palestinians who have been under administrative custody,” the statement said.

Turkey is right. Israel should give to the Palestinian prisoners the same condition the local turkish prisoner have, the problem, no palestinian prisoner will agree to such condition, it worse than their existing condition.
