The operation was jointly conducted by the police and gendarmerie, the Cihan news agency reported. The detained are suspected to be members of the KCK's "village communes." Police and gendarmerie teams searched 45 residences in several villages. Eight people targeted by the operation escaped from the villages when they heard it would be conducted.
The KCK, an umbrella group that allegedly encompasses the terrorist Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), reportedly plans to declare Yüksekova -- a triangular region located between Iran, Iraq and Turkey -- to be a “liberated land.” Hundreds of people, including several pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) politicians, have been arrested as part of a major investigation into the KCK.
