Turkish Red Crescent denies aiding Free Syrian Army
The Turkish charity Red Crescent (Kızılay) has denied claims that humanitarian aid it has provided to refugees in southeastern Turkey has been used by the Free Syrian Army.
Ahmet Lütfi Akar, president of Kızılay, said in a statement on Wednesday that reports by some Turkish newspapers that the organization's aid supplies are being used by the Free Syrian Army are completely baseless.
Akar criticized the journalists who have published such claims and the statement said Kızılay has taken legal action against them.
Akar said Kızılay, which conducts its aid efforts without discriminating on the basis of religion, race, language or political ideology, has provided humanitarian aid in accordance with these principles to Syrians who are staying in camps in Turkey.
