Two Turkish boxers out of three defeated their opponents to advance to the semifinals, one step closer to earning a berth for the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

The continental qualification competitions for the Olympics are continuing in the Black Sea city of Trabzon’s Hayri Gür Sports Hall. Yakup Şener defeated his Serbian opponent Ljubomir Marjanovic 9-3 in the 64-kilogram competition on Wednesday to advance to the semis. Şener will get a ticket to the Olympics if he wins the title in his category. In the 85-kilogram competition, Adem Kılıççı was declared the winner after a 13-13 draw with Russia’s Maksim Koptyakov. Kılıççı will go to the Olympics if he wins his next round and advances to the finals. In the 91-kilogram competition, Ümit Patır was eliminated after being defeated by Moldova’s Vladimir Cheles 21-13. The semifinal competitions are slated for Friday.
