Turkish filmmaker Seyfi Teoman was in the intensive care unit of an İstanbul hospital on Tuesday after being seriously injured in a motorbike accident on Monday night near İstanbul’s Bakırköy district.

The young filmmaker was riding his motorbike on Monday night along İstanbul’s E-5 motorway near Bakırköy when he had the accident, which caused serious brain hemorrhage, the Anatolia news agency reported Tuesday. Teoman was immediately taken to İstanbul University’s Çapa Medical School Hospital and placed under intensive care. His condition remained critical as of Tuesday afternoon.

The acclaimed writer/director behind the indie films “Tatil Kitabı” (Summer Book), his international award-winning debut, and “Bizim Büyük Çaresizliğimiz” (Our Grand Despair), which competed for the Golden Bear award at last year’s Berlin Film Festival, turned 35 on Monday. Teoman is also one of the co-producers of recent festival favorite “Tepenin Ardı” (Beyond the Hill), the debut feature by Turkish filmmaker Emin Alper.
