Demirören stated that the TFF sent its bid application to the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) on Tuesday and added: “We bid for the second largest football tournament in the world [European Championship] to be played in our country. As you all are aware, we lost the bid for the EURO 2016 by just one vote.”
The UEFA began the bidding process for the 2020 European Championship last month and said a decision on the venue would be reached in late 2013 or early 2014.
Joint bids are likely to be allowed for the 24-nation tournament, which involves 51 matches being played over a month. The Netherlands and Belgium co-hosted the competition in 2000, Switzerland and Austria in 2008, and Poland and Ukraine will this year.
