A total of 1,000 children hailing from 41 countries will meet in Turkey's Kocaeli province on April 19 for the annual International Children's Festival.
The young participants will add international color to the four-day global festival by sporting traditional dress and performing songs and dances unique to their home countries. The festival will kick off on April 19 with a parade, after which 1,000 lanterns will be released into the sky. The festival will end on April 23, National Sovereignty and Children's Day in Turkey.
For four days, the municipality will boast a flurry of activities run between 10 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. geared towards families. Children will be able to work alongside master craftsman of calligraphy, glass-blowing, rug weaving, painting, origami, shadow puppet plays, woodworking and more.
Each day of the festival, children will be able to participate in activities like wall-climbing, a rodeo and air hockey and taste traditional treats such as Ottoman taffy, candy apples, popcorn and cotton candy.
A toy exhibit reflecting the cultures and histories of the 41 countries will also debut at the festival.
