Famous oil wrestler Taşçı seriously wounded in armed attack

Legendary Turkish oil wrestler Ahmet Taşçı was seriously wounded on Thursday in an armed attack allegedly perpetrated by another former oil wrestler in the western district of Kocaeli.

The private Cihan news agency reported that Mehmet Yılmaz, a former oil wrestler known as Cino Mehmet, shot Taşçı in the Karamürsel district of Kocaeli province. Taşçı was reportedly taken to Karamürsel State Hospital and Yılmaz has already turned himself in to police.

Taşçı was later transferred to Gölcük State Hospital. “I am fine,” he told reporters as he was being transport to the Gölcük hospital. Doctors said he hadn't sustained any life-threatening injuires.

Taşçı has won several titles at Turkey's famous Kırkpınar Oil Wrestling Tournament held every year in Edirne.
