Serpil İdikurt, who is originally from Turkey's Adana province, divorced her husband Şamil Kaya two years ago in Arnhem, Holland. Kaya went to İdikurt's home to visit their 10 and 11-year-old children and stabbed his ex-wife to death. Police arrested Kaya at the scene of the crime. A memorial ceremony for İdikurt was held at the preschool where she was a teacher. Friends and parents of the schoolchildren are planning a silent march to protest the murder, CNN Türk reported on Thursday.
This is the second time in a week's time that a Turkish woman was murdered by her ex-husband in front of her children in the Netherlands. Zübeyde Andaç was similarly stabbed to death in front of her three children by her ex-husband Deniz Andaç last week in Rotterdam. She is expected to be buried in her hometown of Kayseri this weekend.
