İstanbul counterterrorism police units carried out excavations at two sites in İstanbul in search of explosives as part of a terrorism investigation and have found 15 kilograms of plastic explosives at one of the sites.
One of the sites being excavated is an empty field near the Ferhatpaşa farm in the Bayrampaşa district and the other is a graveyard near the Zekeriyaköy neighborhood. Police teams unearthed 15 kilograms of plastic explosives in Bayrampaşa. The excavations are being carried out as part of an investigation into the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) and based on the testimony of a recently captured member of the KCK. The Cihan news agency said the explosives discovered were C4.
Most recently, police discovered nearly five kilograms of explosives in the Başakşehir district of İstanbul as they carried out excavations at a site near the Atatürk Olimpiyat Stadium as part of the KCK investigation. Prosecutors say the KCK is a political umbrella organization that includes the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) terrorist organization.
