Polat, who was the club's vice chairman at the time, is accused of manipulating the game between Fenerbahçe and Denizlispor by paying Denizlispor $1.5 million. An investigation into the allegations was concluded, and Polat appears to be the only suspect in the indictment. The investigation was initiated by the İstanbul Specially Authorized Public Prosecutor's Office, but later the file was sent to the İstanbul Public Prosecutor's Office because of a lack of jurisdiction since it didn't fall into the category of organized crime.
Turkish media outlets reported on Tuesday that the indictment seeks punishment for Polat due to breach of fiduciary duty. The investigation revealed that it went undocumented that about $1.5 million was taken from the club's budget in 2006. Polat's case will be heard at the İstanbul Court of First Instance. The date for the first hearing is yet unknown.
In his testimony, Polat denied the allegations, saying the $1.5 million was distributed to the football players at the time on the orders of former Chairman Özhan Canaydın.
