Turkey's Van hit by magnitude 4.5 quake

17 February 2012 / TODAYSZAMAN.COM
A magnitude 4.5 earthquake occurred on Friday in Van province, which was hit by a magnitude 7.2 quake on Oct. 23 and another tremor measuring 5.2 on Nov. 9 of last year.

According to the website of the Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute at Boğaziçi University, the earthquake occurred at 11:32 a.m. and its epicenter was Van's Ağartı village.

Some 650 people died in the two earthquakes that hit the province late last year. The tremors flattened some 2,000 buildings and left thousands homeless in the eastern province, where harsh winter weather mean survivors of the quake have had to endure further hardship.
