New year kicks off with more gender-based violence
In one of the first reported incidents of gender-based violence of the new year, a man stabbed his wife during an argument on Sunday in İstanbul, according to the Cihan news agency.
Sabiha A., 29, was stabbed by her husband, Nihat K., in front of their 2-year-old child in the Beyoğlu district. Police and paramedics arrived on the scene to find Sabiha A. severely injured. She was rushed to Okmeydanı Teaching and Research Hospital for further treatment.
Nihat K. was arrested and taken to Kasımpaşa Police Station, and police said the investigation into the incident continues. According to police reports, Nihat K. said he began arguing with his wife and then stabbed her after he grew jealous when she was sending text messages back and forth with a friend.
