Turkish hackers take down website of French genocide bill initiator Boyer

27 December 2011 /TODAY'S ZAMAN
A group of hackers have crashed the official website of Valerie Boyer, the French Union for a Popular Movement (UMP) deputy who initiated a controversial Armenian genocide bill that was recently approved by the French National Assembly.

Following the hackers' infiltration, Boyer's official website, www.valerie-boyer.fr, was redirected to the Turkish hackers' website, http://www.grayhatz.co/fr.html. The hackers' site explains: “France -- what a democratic country that cannot stand for its people to express their opinions. … Instead of discussing what happened to Armenians, look at your crimes against humanity in Algeria.” The comment was made in reference to French colonial rule in Algeria between 1830 and 1962.

The hackers' site also praises Armenians living in Turkey, who the hackers say are just as uneasy about the French bill as Turks. The hackers define the Armenian diaspora in France as “a selfish community” that has tried to take advantage of President Nicolas Sarkozy's government, which proposed the bill to the French assembly following Boyer's initiative. The bill states it is a crime to deny the World War I-era mass killings of Armenians was genocide.
