New quake hits eastern Turkey

30 November 2011 /TODAY'S ZAMAN WITH AP
Turkey's Kandilli Observatory has announced that on Wednesday morning a magnitude 5.0 earthquake shook eastern Turkey, a region already devastated by two powerful tremors.

The observatory said the quake hit early Wednesday, with its epicenter situated in the village of Kurubas near the city of Van.

Authorities said the latest temblor did not cause any serious damage but that terrified residents rushed out of tents and buildings in panic.

Mustafa Berktaş, head physician of a state hospital in Van, said there is minimal damage at the hospital but added that patients will be moved into a field hospital and that others in serious condition will be flown to nearby cities.
