Middle Eastern activists tell of Arab Spring in İstanbul

Arab Spring activists from across the Middle East convened for a meeting in İstanbul on Friday to tell their own stories of the movement.

The activists gathered for a meeting of the Nahda network that was set up by the Young Civilians, a non-governmental organization in Turkey, to enable young civilian activists from the Middle East to voice their aspirations and contribute to the future of politics in the region.

The meeting was held at the Point Hotel in İstanbul’s Taksim Square.

Delivering the inaugural speech of the summit, famous Egyptian actor Khaled Abol Naga talked about the distance covered by Arab Spring since the beginning of this year. Naga said nobody has to give up on their own rights and nobody is strong to have a say on the rights of the others anymore following the Arab Spring.

Naga also commented on the importance of the social media and said it played an important role in the awakening of the Arab nations.

“Now, everyone can speak and can listen thanks to technology. Everyone is part of the freedom movement and everyone is a leader themselves,” Nada said.
