Two children from the same family died and two others were injured when a fire erupted in a tent set up for quake survivors in the eastern province of Van on Friday.

The incident took place in a tent in the village of Karpuzalan. The fire was reportedly caused by a stove in the Tolukan family's tent.

Twelve-year-old Bahar Tolukan and 6-year-old İsmail Tolukan were killed in the fire, and 12-year-old Mikail Tolukan and 2-year-old Kerem Tolukan sustained serious burns.

Thousands of quake victims are taking shelter in tents in Van after the province was hit by earthquakes on Oct. 23 and Nov. 9. The two quakes had magnitudes of 7.2 and 5.6, respectively, killing 644 people and leaving thousands of others homeless.

Last Saturday a disabled 6-year-old, Deniz Olgun, died of pneumonia in Van. The girl had been hospitalized after falling ill while living in a makeshift tent.
