Diplomatic sources told Today’s Zaman the Foreign Ministry will continue to use both iPhones and BlackBerry’s despite last month’s BlackBerry meltdown. The Sabah newspaper reported on Friday that the BlackBerry phones allocated to senior staff members at the Foreign Ministry would be discarded and replaced with iPhones.
Only Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu would continue using BlackBerry, the daily reported. According to Sabah’s “BlackBerry diplomacy is finished” article, the ministry decided to make the switch after the personnel experienced communication problems during BlackBerry’s system failure last month. But diplomatic sources have labeled the news report as false. Millions of Blackberry users were hit with service disruptions to their smartphones for three days last month after an unexplained glitch cut off Internet and messaging services across the world.
