Guillaume Delpech, news photo editor there, said Sipahioğlu was admitted to the American Hospital outside Paris on Monday. It was not immediately clear what he died of.
Born in Turkey, Sipahioğlu captured everything from the tense days in Havana during the Cuban Missile Crisis to the French riots of May 1968.
In 1973, he and his companion, American journalist Phyllis Springer, founded Sipa, which is named for him. The two married in 2002.
