Opposition's flag raised in front of Libyan Embassy in Ankara

22 August 2011 /TODAYSZAMAN.COM
Supporters of Libyan rebels removed the flag of the Muammar Gaddafi government in front of the Libyan Embassy in Ankara and raised the opposition's flag on Monday after rebels swept into the heart of Tripoli and crowds took to the streets to celebrate what they saw as the end of Gaddafi's four decades in power.

The Libyan ambassador in Ankara attempted to make a statement but opposition supporters prevented the envoy's speech, saying he is a Gaddafi loyalist. Two of Gaddafi's sons were captured by the rebels, but the whereabouts of Gaddafi himself, one of the world's longest ruling leaders, were unknown.

US President Barack Obama said Gaddafi's rule was showing signs of collapse six months after dissidents inspired by the Arab Spring uprisings in neighboring Tunisia and Egypt first took to the streets.
