Police detained eight individuals on Wednesday for allegedly smuggling cigarettes, drugs and cosmetics from Georgia into Turkey.

The suspects allegedly planned to sell the smuggled products, valued at approximately TL 10 million, in Turkey.

The operation consisted of shipping the products from Georgia to Artvin and from there to İstanbul.

Police stopped two minivans carrying smuggled goods in transit to İstanbul's Fatih, Beyoğlu, and Bağcılar districts and seized a large number of hair dyes and other cosmetic items.

The police confiscated more than 800,000 pills, 15,000 packs of smuggled cigarettes, 15,000 packages of hair dye and 9,000 cans of hairspray.

The police said that smuggling products like this could lead to serious damage to human health.
