A disabled deputy with a prosthetic leg from the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) found herself in a difficult situation on Tuesday due to a ban on female deputies wearing trousers.

CHP İstanbul Deputy Şafak Pavey came to Parliament on a wheel chair with the help of a Parliament officer and took her seat among the CHP's ranks. However, she was apparently uncomfortable with wearing a skirt as it exposed her prosthetic leg.

Parliamentary bylaws prohibit female deputies from wearing pants and oblige male deputies to wear ties.
