23 June 2011 /TODAY'S ZAMAN
President Abdullah Gül received Pakistan's new ambassador to Turkey, Muhammad Haroon Shaukat, at the Çankaya presidential palace on Wednesday.

The newly appointed ambassador of Pakistan to Turkey presented his letter of credence to Gül and conveyed special greetings from the president and prime minister of Pakistan to President Gül in Turkish. He said both the government and the people of Pakistan have a deep love and affection for their Turkish brothers and sisters, and it is a unique privilege and honor to be Pakistan's ambassador.

Shaukat said the Pakistani nation takes pride in Turkey's rise and strength. "Our friendship with Turkey is a source of strength for us," he remarked, stressing that he would work to boost economic relations with Turkey during his time as ambassador.

Accepting the credentials of Ambassador Shaukat, Gül underlined that the people of both countries have a unique relationship that predates the existence of the two countries and that Pakistan is a very important Muslim country for Turkey. He added that Turkey is keen to diversify the brotherly relations into a more concrete economic partnership.
