Gönül’s remarks came during campaigning in the district of Gazipaşa in Antalya province, where he said Turkey is conducting its fight against the outlawed PKK in the most effective way and that Turkey and the US are cooperating in the fight against the organization.
Recalling that the US is providing real-time intelligence on the premises and movements of PKK members in northern Iraq, Gönül said Turkey would continue to fight against the PKK in an armed battle so long as the PKK remains armed. “No state would take different measures against someone who points a gun against the state. Yes, other measures might be taken, but the response to someone who points a gun [at the state] is a gun,” the defense minister said.
