Cypriot leaders agree on terms of international agreements

Turkish Cypriot President Derviş Eroğlu and Greek Cypriot leader Dimitris Christofias have agreed on terms of international agreement.

The leaders met on Thursday in Lefkoşa to discuss international agreements as well as internal security, fishery and search and rescue topics in sea.

Eroğlu said leaders have also established a committee of experts along with the special envoys in a statement he made after the talks.

Eroğlu and Christofias regularly meet almost for a year to find an enduring peace settlement for the long-divided island yet with few tangible results.

The president said domestic security was also discussed, adding that it had already been accepted that federal police would be composed of equal number of Turkish and Greek Cypriot policemen. There is not a full agreement on number of police of the founder states.

Special representatives will meet next Tuesday and the leaders will meet on May 12, Eroğlu said, adding that the leaders have also assessed the role of founder state police and federal police on the matter.

Eroğlu said third trilateral meeting will take place in New York after June 20.
