Arınç meets Iranian leader, suggests holding Nevruz in Turkey

28 March 2011 /TODAY’S ZAMAN
The Turkish deputy prime minister said he has suggested to Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that they hold Nevruz celebrations in Turkey next year, noting that the Iranian president was warm to the idea.

Bülent Arınç told the Anatolia news agency on Sunday that he had talks with officials from many countries who came to Tehran to participate in Nevruz celebrations, including Ahmadinejad. Arınç said he offered the Iranian president the possibility of Turkey hosting Nevruz celebrations next year, and he said Ahmadinejad was pleased to hear this suggestion. The Turkish minister also said he thinks the Iranian side will decide on this later.

Arınç had talks with head of states, government officials and delegations from countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Pakistan and Azerbaijan. He said Turkey enjoys “excellent” political and economic relations with many countries attending the celebrations and that he had an opportunity to meet and express Turkey’s greetings to these representatives.
