In remarks to Anatolia, Mehmet Nuri Parmaksız, chairman of the southeastern province of the Kahramanmaraş-based Vocational Union of Science and Literature Work Owners (İLESAM), said Law 5846 on Intellectual and Artistic Property would soon be amended. “Many people will be penalized after the legislation is passed in the days ahead because of this ‘copy-paste’ issue. You will no longer be allowed to copy and paste things [on the Internet] that are not yours. If you do, there will be legal consequences,” he said, adding that among those consequences will be closure of web sites, fines and even imprisonment. He underlined, however, that the managers of web sites found to be violating intellectual property rights will be given a few days’ time to remove relevant content from their pages before any legal action is taken.
