Dense fog disrupts life in İstanbul
A THY flight to Jeddah, which was to carry pilgrims, was reportedly set to leave one hour late due to the dense fog with a possibility of further delay if the fog lingered.
The Bosporus was closed to marine traffic at 10:30 p.m. on Thursday and opened after the dense fog had dispersed at about 11 a.m. yesterday, the Turkish Straits Vessel Traffic Services (TSVTS) announced. İstanbul Ferry Lines (İDO) also delayed runs of the Eskihisar-Topçular ferryboat and other ferries yesterday morning. Visibility, which decreased to as low as 10 meters, led to disruptions in traffic.
In the meantime, the fog that started to spread Thursday evening and got dense yesterday morning also paralyzed life in Bursa, decreasing visibility to as low as 100 meters. The thick fog did not affect flights at the city’s Yenişehir Airport. State Meteorology Bureau officials warned Bursa residents that the dense fog may be a problem in the coming days especially in the morning time.
