University results announced, 560,000 enrolled in programs

The results of the Undergraduate Placement Examination (LYS) are in: Out of 1,104,763 eligible candidates, 561,003 students have been enrolled in undergraduate and associate degree programs across Turkey. Meanwhile, 33,099 spots in undergraduate programs and 77,702 associate degree program seats remain unfilled.

The Student Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM) has announced the placement results from the April 11 Transition to Higher Education Examination (YGS) and the LYS, which were administered on June 19-20 and 26-27 of this year. In addition, vocational high school graduates with the right to examination-free entrance were also placed in associate degree programs.

Placement data say that out of 1,542,583 people who scored high enough to submit their top choices for a university program, 1,104,763 returned their forms with their choices indicated. Upon the processing of these requests, 561,003 of 671,804 available university spots were filled. Thus, nearly half of the 1,104,763 candidates were placed in a program.

Four-year undergraduate programs saw the placement of 327,869 students, while 233,134 candidates were placed into associate degree programs. A total of 110,801 empty university spots remain; 33,099 for undergraduate programs and 77,702 associate degree spots. The breakdown for these unfilled seats is as follows: 11,547 empty spots at state university four-year programs and 57,646 for their associate programs; 9,075 four-year and 18,395 associate degree program spots at private universities; 11,563 four-year and 1,559 associate degree spots at universities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (KKTC); and 914 four-year and 102 associate spots at universities abroad. As for distance education, 97,782 students were placed into four-year programs, while 104,731 were placed into associate degree programs.
