IRU names Cihan best news agency in Turkey

The International Radio Broadcasting Union (IRU) awarded the Cihan news agency with its Best News Agency of the Year award at a ceremony in Ankara on Friday.
The second part of the program, titled “Those who deserve applause awards,” was organized in the capital’s Etimesgut district and participated in by a wide range of invitees and local politicians and artists. Etimesgut Mayor Enver Demirel and IRU President Yusuf Erbaş were also present at the ceremony.

From politics to art and from TV to radio broadcasting, various awards were presented during the ceremony. Cihan, Turkey’s second-largest news agency, has correspondents in 39 countries and celebrated its 18th anniversary this year. Its award was accepted by the head of subscription and operational services unit, Akif Karadeniz. The agency currently has clients throughout Turkey and around the world, indicating its wide-ranging reach. It cooperates and shares written and audio-visual content with the world’s leading corporations, including China’s Xinhua news agency, the US’s Associated Press and Russia’s Ria Novosti.

The Best Local TV Station award was given to KON TV. “Ayna” (Mirror) was selected as the Best TV Program.
