Addressing Galatasaray fans, Özkan said he wanted to be accepted by his new club and will do everything humanly possible to win this acceptance. “The atmosphere here is not strange to me because I came from a big team. I know most of my friends here from the national team, so I feel very much at home here,” he further stated.
About Galatasaray’s Dutch coach Frank Rijkaard, Özkan said the Dutchman is a world-class coach and was also a world-renowned star during his playing years. “My friends here tell me that he is very friendly and warm. I will get to know him better as we work together.”
Özkan also talked about the team’s young captain-playmaker Arda Turan, saying it is as if both of them belonged to the same family because they have been playing together on the Turkish national team for a long time. Özkan joined Galatasaray from Beşiktaş at the end of the 2009-10 season in May as a free agent, meaning Galatasaray did not pay a dime for this transfer. Özkan has been capped three times with the senior Turkish national team.
